University Partnership in Dementia Care Innovations

Updated: Oct 3

We founded Maude’s Ventures to find and fund new ideas in dementia care. Because of their commitment to biotech and innovation, we were excited to expand this program through a partnership with Santa Clara University (SCU)

On Friday, July 22nd, the Memory Hub (another proud Foundation initiative) hosted ten students and three faculty members from SCU for a design sprint. In the morning, four teams of students pitched their innovation ideas to more than 20 community members who served as judges and thought partners.

The teams then visited one of three locations - Murano Senior Living, Seattle University College of Nursing, and Horizon House - and shared their ideas with professional caregivers and people with dementia. Based on the feedback from those conversations, they updated their pitches and then made their final presentations back at the Hub.

The winning idea was a virtual reality program for training caregivers. Over the next three years, the team at Santa Clara will develop this idea and bring it to market.

Stay tuned!
